Re: New custom in my hands.
I finally took this rig out to pop a coyote. I’ve gotten so used to taking out my 6mm Rem AI that it was actually hard for me to take a different rifle. Calling was poor today with the warm weather but, managed to get the 204 “Blooded”. It’s been long overdue.

Nice job and I like how that blends in with the terrain and weather conditions. I hear ya' on the 6mm Remington AI. I have a 6mm Remington in a 40x and while it's a target rifle and a bit heavy to tote around, it sure can do the job and it's capable of reaching out ther too.

CG - It sure looks like your new build got the job done! Congratulations! Judging by where the coyote dropped, the 204 must have stopped him/her in its tracks. Either that or the picture was staged. In either case, it's nice to see your new rifle was up to the task. One other observation, the coyote doesn't appear to be very large or not one I would expect to see from our northern neighbor. Was it a younger coyote or just the angle of the picture?

Thanks for sharing the photo. We enjoy photos of critters and weapons used in the outdoors.

Re: New custom in my hands.
It was dead before it hit the snow. Only about 130 yards or so. I haven’t killed a big coyote in my normal haunts yet this year. We had a real dirty cold snap that started the end of November, accompanied by deeper than average snow. Nothing was moving. Deer were belly deep, pushing snow with their briskets. Coyotes were struggling to move every bit as much as the deer and the calling has reflected this. Every coyote I’ve killed has been pretty lean. I’ve definitely taken some mature coyotes this season but, not the normal weight on them. The coyote in the picture is long and mature but not much extra weight. We just had a big melt and it’s due to get cold again. There’ll be a hard crust and they’ll be getting around easy again. Not to mention me too. A few of my bigger coyotes from last year.MTPaul wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 8:40 am CG - It sure looks like your new build got the job done! Congratulations! CG - Thanks for the photos. You have an eye for taking some nice high-quality pictures!
The fur on those coyotes looks prime! Is the fur price in Canada any better than that in the US? The last picture is epic and should grace a hunting magazine.

Re: New custom in my hands.
You’re very welcome and I’m glad you enjoy. I appreciate the kind words. Thank you.
I regard to the fur prices; sadly, we are in the same state of affairs. In the previous two years, I’ve taken some of the nicest coyotes in my life. Size, colour and fur quality have all been there. And, they’re worthless to sell. As a matter of fact, I built the above 204 with money from coyotes I called in over a few years when prices were still good. It’s an absolute shame. I should have done it before but, I’m now saving the really nice ones and I’ll be having a parka made by an Inuit lady in The Northwest Territories.
I’ve got a few more really nice pictures captured over the years. I’ll post them up too for you guys.

Re: New custom in my hands.
CG - Very, very nice!!
There is little doubt in the fact you certainly know how to get the job done! As you know, the fur on a coyote taken in the winter is the best it will be all year, and it is too bad the market for these pelts has taken a nosedive lately. Save the best of the best and when the market does finally correct itself, you'll reap the rewards...and maybe build another rifle with the proceeds!
