+ 1 for Shilen. I have one of their 9 twist barrels on my 204 and the barrel is a tack driver.

I've got more Pac-Nor barrels in the safe than any other (Shilen, Hart, Douglas, Lilja and all the usual suspects), but their 204 3-groove barrels in 12, 11 and 10 twist are beaucoup accurate, don't foul much, and clean right up. They also have much better delivery time than Shilen.....been there.

The smallest bughole group I've ever shot with a .20 caliber rifle was with a Pac-Nor 3-groove 11 twist 204 Ruger barrel.

Give Jim Briggs a call at Northland Shooters 763-682-4296. He carries both Shilen and CBI for Savage and has a system to put a Savage style(with barrel nut) barrel on a Remington. I have 4 of his CBI and they all shoot better than I can.

I have a 3-groove Lilja on my 20VT and it's a tight shooter. All the barrel names mentioned here are good but the reality is; a barrel is only as good as the person installing it.

Good luck,

I'm on the East coast and have 2 20 cal Hart barrels chamber for the 204 Ruger and both will shoot bug holes with my pet loads. These are fitted to Remington 700 actions. Just my .02
All the mentioned above barrels are good ones to, just depending on the wait time when you order one. Some a quicker than others.

I have 2 barrels from Benchmark Barrels 360-652-2594. They have several world records with their barrels. They told me 4 to 6 weeks and had mine in 4 weeks. You can get any contour and length. They have gunsmithing services if you want them to install it on your action and will chamber and thread barrels if you want to do it yourself. It only takes two tools to put a Savage barrel on. I have been very happy with my accuracy from Benchmark. I would suggest that you get the highest quality Shilen barrel if you go that way. I have had two top notch gunsmiths tell me some of them are out of round. I learned this after getting a bad Shilen barrel I cannot get to group.

Thanks all.

I was inquiring about the savage barrel for my Savage, and a friend said he believed he would change a Remington 223 barred action to a 204 Ruger as he was thinking he would like to shoot that caliber ( he has a couple 223's).

+1 for Hart. My friend's 25 '06 (Ruger action, Hart barrel) is scary accurate. I'm a tad partial, they are only an hour away from my house.

Bow shot will have to meet up and take tour of the Hart plant if they have one. I haave 8 of there barrels from. 338cal down to the 20 cal for my 204. All are bug hole shooters if I do my part.
Later and enjoy the rest of summer.
