Your favourite bore cleaner

Ive found I need to upgrade my cleaning methods since getting the 204. Just putting Hoppes#9 does not seem quite good enough. I guess these fast bullets and fast burning powders (Im using VV530 powder (nitroglycerol)) - makes cleaning more critical.

Ok, enough bull, what are the best barrel cleaners out there and how do U use them?

Try the MPRO-7 products, especially the copper remover.

Wipe Out foam. Spray, let sit...wipes out copper, lead, powder. Doesnt stink up the joint. Good stuff.

I like that stuff, too. My Savage seems to have an awfully rough bore, it fouls like CRAZY, and takes a TON to get it all out. So, I'm happy to do the Wipe-Out, letting it sit for a few hours each time.

Wipe and patch out are both very good. Easy to use and do the job. Bill K :)

Do you use the wipe-out foam only or blend in other solvents before/after?

Smith and Wesson makes a "Gel" bore cleaner. Nylon brushed into the bore 20 strokes and leave it in overnight. No waste like the spray foams and not as messy. Next day one-two patches in oil the bore is clean.

Check their web page but IIRC; "don't use with any other cleaners.

FWIW, I like a mixtue of Shooters Choice (60%) and Kroil (40%).

HTH,

The Shooters Choice MC#7 has been working pretty good for me, it works fast and isn't too expensive. Its an all around bore cleaner & does a pretty decent job of getting rid of copper fouling too...although my 204 T/C Venture normally has little to no fouling when shooting the Nosler BT's...just switched to sierras so we'll see if they are similar

hopps copper solvent wasn't getting my first 204 barrel clean. then i switched to gunslick pro foam bore cleaner. stuff works for me. it sprays like shaving cream then later it turns into heavy liquid. just have it sit in the barrel a while. i personally think the longer the better.

I am only Three weeks in to .204s.

Are using small patches or do you cut regular ones down?

Any specialty ones out there?

Pro-Shot 1 1/8 x 1 1/8 (square or round) with a Pro-Shot jag works great. Not just any 1 1/8 x 1 1/8 patch works though even if with a Pro-Shot jag.

HTH.

I bought a big pack of Montana X-treme's 3/4" patches, for .17/.20 applications.
