Building a 204 Ruger. Standard is 1-12 for lighter bullets. Has anyone put 1-10 or 1-11 in a barrel? I don't want to shoot the lighter bullets, if do that I have my favorite gun COOPER MTV 17Rem. Everyone says the 39SBK will shoot in a 1-12.

Just looking for info.

Will probably go with 1-10.

I have two 204R's with 12T barrels that shoot the 39 SMK's great but won't shoot the 40's. I re barreled my 20SCC with an Xcaliber three groove 11T when the GM barrel gave up. It will shoot the 40's with no problems. In my opinion if you want to shoot the 40's go with an 11T. If you to go heavier than that, a faster twist would be in order.

If you want to be on the safe side, go with a 1/11 twist. More and more 20 calibers shooters are finding it does a better job on stabilizing the bullets we shoot, than the 1/12 or 1/14 which most 204R's especially come with. Bill K

I have a 1/10 twist lothar walther on my 204.
It shoots everything from 32 grain to 50 grain accurately.
A 1/11 or 1/10 twist will be fine.
