Howa 1500 204 Barrel Twist

Post by Flyinrazrback »

Does anyone know what twist comes on the Howa 1500 204s and what the shank size is? I can't find this info. Also, I am wanting to switch to a CF 24" barrel, what is the best twist rate for the 32g bullets?

Twist: Almost positive it's a 12 twist like almost all other factory 204's (T/C being an exception with a 10 twist).

Shank Size: Sorry, the Howa 1500 is not listed in my spec book of bolt action rifle barrel shank drawings.

Ideal Twist for 32's: That would be either 11 or 12 twist, the 12 better suited to 32gr bullets, but the 11 twist gives you the ability to shoot any 40gr bullet well.

Now that the Howa rifles are widespread, about any good smith will be able to do your rebarrel job. All you need to do is to choose the barrel maker.

Thanks, I think I will be going with a Cabon 6 barrel. Proof or Bartlein do not make a barrel to fit it.

Believe their website, show 1/12 twist for the 204R. If you go a custom barrel, I would suggest you go with a 1/11 twist, seems to work very well with the 204/s ( and other 20 calibers) with most all the bullets we shoot in them. Bill K :)
