Post by Tom Kat »

I have a tipton general purpose guide that isnt quite small enough to please me on my CZ 527. What bore guides do you all use?

I use a Lucas bore guide. I bought it years ago. It uses an insert closely sized to your cleaning rod to make sure the rod is centered. I have seen on several sites that say Mike no longer makes his bore guides. However, Accurate Shooter still lists him on their website. Here's the last known contact information:

I use some I ordered from Possum Hollow, for the action type/size that they make to fit. Work very well. :)

Possum hollow.
I note neck area of chamber gets build up of inox that I use after cleaning.
So..need to remove excess fluid from this area.
There is an oring that stops it travelling further back.
I can use same possum hollow bore guide in browning predator hunter and rem 788, 222rem.

Thanks to all of you for good advice. I really like this bore guide. Fits great.

Now order the solvent port offered for those bore guides. Makes it much less messy, no solvent on your stock or action. The port also has the o-ring, and seals well in the bore guide and completes the assembly.

Sinclair has them in stock.

I suppose you could, but considering the minimal cost of the solvent port, and how effective it is, I don't know why you'd want to potentially bugger up your new bore guide. But that's just me.

To make the shipping cost worthwhile, order some patches too, maybe .20 cal brushes or a proper spear-point jag. It's your call.

Good idea, you can never have enough patches

I'm using a Lucas for 6.5 CM custom build.
For my AR15 (.204 Ruger and .223 builds) I have a JP Enterprises BG
For my AR15 6.5 Grendel I use a Possum Hollow BG
For my Bergara B14R I also have a Possum Hollow BG as well.

I've got a dedicated drawer of bore guides for every rifle in the safe. Most if not all came from Sinclair International, but the very best one with the best fit and design came from Brad at Custom Reloading Tools, now defunct. It was made specifically for my Cooper M38 20VT. I think all his products are now offered from Widden Gunworks.

For this type of precision tools, avoid the usual suspects like Midway with common, run of the mill products and go to the place that caters to precision shooters: Sinclair International. Their yearly catalog is excellent too, with many handloading tips within.
