Monthly Shootout: October 2017 GET TO DA RANGE!

OK! We had some good entries in the first one. Scoring - I'll admit I've not tallied them up yet - but seems like we have some work to do.

On we go to October 2017!!

FIRST RULE: NO RULES!
- yeah, this is totally fun. And let us keep it that way. No prizes. No trophies - not even the participation kind. So there. Let us be clear.

Shoot as many targets as you like, as many shots as you like. 100, 200 yard or more with a .204 Ruger. 25 and 50 yard with any rimfire caliber of your choice.*

Supply your own targets or buy 'em at your local gun shop. As long as it has a well defined center/bullseye. If you are cheap like me, use a paper plate and a red marker. That is good enough. No mailing in. No waiting on targets. You can remain anonymous, and all we'll see is your screen name.

There are some good old standards IF you want to try to be in a match up. 5 shots at 25 & 50 yards and 3 shots at 100 (or more) yds. That is only a suggestion - it is NOT a rule!!

List your guns and ammo - so our members and others know what you were shooting.

Also note front or rear rests when used, bipod, bags, lead sled etc.

It's not a rule - just a fact - a hole in a target is going to count! 6 holes is 6 holes - NO throw a ways!

Similar optics and distances will be compiled as groups - SCORING & ALL shooters will be included in the monthly 'report'.

Post a picture (or scan) of the target you want to submit with the measurement below - use calipers, a ruler or use "On Target"

Download here (a great tool) >>>>http://www.ontargetshooting.com/download1.html<<<<

DEADLINE for shooting is Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 @ midnight. Submit your scores by Friday November 3rd, 2017 @ midnight.

PLEASE post (in text) any information about gun, ammo, optics and score - THIS makes the report a lot smoother. Cut-and-Paste REALLY helps with scoring. (Sample below)

Please include a photo of the gun used (range pics a plus as well!) - We LOVE photos!

On to a final few things:

Scoring:

Score your group in inches. Then measure distance from bulls-eye to your furthest shot. Add these two. That is your score for that target.

List your score like this: ---

Any Brand Rifle .204 Ruger, 22"
Front and rear bags
3 shots
100 yards
Nikon Acculon Glass 3-9 X 40 Scope
32gr Hornady V-max Ammo
Far shot: .370
Group: .293
Total: 0.663"

Well was able to get to the range (in-laws farm) this month. I was told that the beans were off which would have let me shoot 300 yards...but they weren't. So I settled for 200 yards, the target is just in front of the trees between the beans and corn. Fall is by far my favorite season, something about the smell of corn and beans combined with the changing leaves and beautiful sunsets. One of my favorite things to do is sit on a tractor with a hoodie on pulling a corn picker.

I will be able to shoot out to 400 yards this winter for these challenges once the corn comes off as well.

Savage model 12 .204 Ruger, 26"
Bipod and rear bag
3 shots
200 yards
Mueller Eraticator 8.5-25x50 Scope
39 gr SBK, 26.2 gr H4895, Hornady brass, CCI 400 primers
Far shot: 1.305"
Group: .661"
Total: 1.966"

Ok hope this turns out OK, I shot this Oct 4 not 5 as shown, the charge is 28.3, this is my regular squeak load that I used all last summer, I was shooting today working up a 39gr SBK load and before I left I shot these 3 at 100 yards at the Larkin rd range outside Oroville, had I realized the grp was so good I would have stayed and cranked down the elevation so now I'll have to do it again with it zeroed and hope I can come close this group.

Thank you, I may have that target framed, it means nothing unless I can consistently shoot similar groups and BTW my windage is never that good the wind must have pushed them here. I got the rifle late last winter and went through the OCW process and by the time I came up with this load we were already shooting at squirrels. So I have not really spent much time at the range, but that will be remedied between now and February.

10 shot group.

.976 overall
.997 from center
1.973 total

Ruger Mark II V/T 204 Ruger
Sightron SIII 6-24
35 gr Berger
Rem 7 1/2 primer
25.5 gr of Benchmark powder

Off a bench with a bipod and rear bag.

Not sure why the pics are sideways. I actually shot a little better scoring 5 shot group today but I am going to stick with the 10 shot group. If 204nut is going to shoot a 200 yard group, I will stick with 10 shots. :D

Had the day off on Friday so my wife and I went out to shoot. Still not where I want to be but there is improvement from last month which is why I'm doing this. I'm really not doing this to embarrass myself as it would appear.

Went out this am, 3 shot group with 17 HMR.. Not good, but here it is, for what it is worth.. Fun anyway. Bill Khttps://204ruger.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=141

Varmint shooter brought to my attention, that I left 100 yrds on the print out/score. That should be 50 yrds, as that is what we shot the rimfire at, not 100 yrds. My bad. Bill K

Hello! I am still here. Good to see that the threads have some good targets. I've been busy with work and family - no time for much. My mother-in-law finished her first round of chemo! Only 5 more to go. I had some downtime this weekend, so I went out to practice the self defense handgun shooting. Took the 17 with just for kicks. Our range has been badly shot up. A common occurrence here in the fall. Only decent station left was at 25 yards. Was a windy day for much else. So I sent about 15 rounds at 25. Results:

The first and second 5 are at the top right and left respectively. Last group in the middle.

Here is the rifle and details.

3-9x40 Weaver Scope
Ammo - CCI 17 gr.
Bags front and rear
Total score - .336"

Should be out at the range this week as I volunteer for sight-in weekend, deer season starts the weekend after. Maybe I'll get a target in for OCtober in 204.
