Dogtown 34 gr. reloads?

Post by Arizona Hunter »

Anybody have some starting loads with the Midway Dogtown 34 gr. 20 cal bullet? I have lots of Reloader 15 so I'd like to use that if possible. This is for the 204 Ruger of course.

I bought these because they were $51 for 500 rounds. I don't expect them to be as accurate as the 32 or 40 V-Max, but maybe 1.5" at 100 yds, plenty good for my grandson (and me, too! :D ) to pop water jugs, cans and such. I'll use the V-Max's for serious prairie dog shooting.

You should be able to do alot better than 1.5" with them. I shoot these things all the time. I use starting loads for 35 grn Bergers. For me they seem to be most accurate if you hold them below max charges. I haven't used Reloader 15 but have used 4898 and H322. I have some Reloader 10 that I'm going to try. Great for cheap shooting fun. Dave

RL-15 is awfully slow for the lighter bullets, but use H-4895 data if there isn't any data for 15, and work up slowly. 15 and 4895 are similar in burning rate, but 15 is slower, so that should be safe enough.

I've had good results with Benchmark and the late, much lamented AA2230-C, if RL-15 doesn't do the trick. Also, there have been a LOT of threads regarding these bullets in this particular forum, so a dash thru the previous pages may turn up some data, also.

Thanks guys.

Looks like the 4895 & RL 15 use the same powder charge but the 4895 produces an extra 100 fps, at least thats what it looks like in the Hornady book.

So, I'll try 26.0 of RL 15 which should give me about 3475 (the 4895 would give 3575) and maybe go up to 27.0 gr. for about 3650.

Hopefully I'll have some range result in a couple of weeks.

I grew up in MN. But all my relatives are in the St. Cloud, Little Falls and Morris areas.
