First time Reload

Post by janesy »

After reading and scouring this site and a few other books for weeks I finally had some free time to sit and load some rounds for the first time. I shoot a 700 Varmint with the barrel shortened to 23".(much easier to drag around)

I decided on this for my first load.

39 GRN SBK
25 GR Reloader 10X
remington 7 1/2 primers
COAL is 2.300.
in Hornady and Remington Brass

I loaded 3 of each with 24.5GRN and 24.8 GRN to test first.

Really excited, cant wait to get out and try out my work.

Welcome to the site, post your results. Good choice of bullet with the rem tube. You can learn a lot from the fellas here. Be careful, this hobby can become more an obsession if you aren't careful.

janesy--Quite a few .204 shooters like Reloder 10X. It has been a long time since I used Reloder 10X with 39 gr. Sierras in my Savage 12VLP in .204 Ruger, but I think loads of 24.8 and 25.1 gr. of Rel 10X worked pretty good for me. I ran out of that lot of powder and the next lot I bought was way slower than the first lot and I had to increase the charge weight up to 25.5 to get close to the same velocity, but the accuracy wasn't there??? I switched to H4895 and haven't looked back.

Good luck on your quest to find a good load and welcome to the Board.

thanks guys.

I'm not really a bench rest guy, so most of my shots will be at yotes and pop cans lol. I adopted this hobby more for the mental challenge(and $$ saving) than anything else. As long as the load shoots as good as factory and is safe, I'm quite happy.

I know I know...famous last words.
