Neck turning!

Post by foxwhistler »

I am just curious if anyone bothers neck turning their brass for the 204. I use nosler brass and just wondering if anyone sees any advantage in it? Thanks.

Most of the time, no, not needed. However I have done some, just too make sure they are smooth all around, taking out high spots. :D

I think it depends on your application. For hunting it's optional. For competition or group shooting, it's an advantage.

No, not in any factory barrel/chamber, no reason except to maybe remove any high or thick spots on the neck for the sake of concentricity, but it seldom shows any improvement at the target (in a factory chamber).

However, I neck turn on almost all my wildcats that have been formed from a different caliber (20VT, 223AI, 17AH, 22 K-Hornet, etc) to ensure adequate neck clearance, usually .001" per side, or .002" less than the OD of the loaded round at the neck.

Safety first, accuracy second.

And to the OP: Nosler brass is all sorted in regard to weight and neck thickness. It's all part of their advertising, so you're basically spinning your wheels if you neck turn their brass for a factory chamber. Load it up and go shoot it.

Thanks for the replies! I was just curious. Just neck turned 100 cases for my 6mm ppc, but that was due to necessity! But it did get me thinking about the 204! Looks like I can save my time!😁
