wallabies in waimate

Post by madracer »

got back from waimte this afternoon after spending two nights and three days in the hills. spent about 3 hours on each night spotlighting but with heaps on walking planned didnt want too much of a late night

a bit frosty on the first morning

first wallaby with the 204 and possibly the largest ive shot

the bullet enters but never exits. still makes a heck of a mess

a young hunters first experience with a 204, maybe another convert

the nights harvests

a view from the hut

most of the hunting is done in heavy tussoc and matagouri and the weapon of choice is the 12 gauge and buckshot but if you can find a rest and lookout the 204 comes in handy. the longestshot i made was 314m but most were 120 to 200 m

Top effort madracer. I hope this is not a sign of things to come in the World Cup!
Cheers

i personally dont keep the mneat as i dont have a big freezer. and i can shoot a deer or pigs or chamois or thar all year round and id rather have that in the freezer.

one of the guys on the trip is making a rug or a blanket or sumthing like that so he got about 20 skins over the weekend. they take a lot of work but they come out really well.
