Checklist for prairie dog shoot

I've been making a list of things to pack for my trip out west next week. Here is what I have so far - what am I missing?

1.) Guns/ammo
2.) Rangefinder, binocs
3.) Cleaning gear, rods, cradle, etc.
4.) Sunscreen, hat, shoooting glasses, ear plugs
5.) Front/rear rest, bags
6.) BR Pivot (in transit hopefully)
7.) Ice chest, water bottles
8.) Spotting scope
9.) Camera gear
10.) 10 X 10 awning

My apology if this topic has been covered before. I just don't want to drive 850 miles , then discover I forgot something crucial.

Add a .22LR belt gun for snakes (or a CF handgun with CCI shot loads), leave the spotting scope at home (you won't need it, I promise), take an old white towel for wetting and cooling your barrel (hopefully, eh?).

Also take a good pair of high top boots. You'll soon twist you ankle wearing tennis shoes out there, and the boots are also extra snake protection.

Looks like you've done your homework bud, now just break-in that new barrel and go to work in the dog towns! Have a great trip and bring back lots of pics.....remember, we like pics around here.

First aid equipment - some is better than none.

I ALWAYS have a blanket, heavy trashbags, and leather gloves in the pickup.

You are missing one of the most important supplies for any prairie dog outing and that is TP!!

I always take a loaf of bread, some Smart Balance margarine, a jar of my favorite jelly, sandwich bags, and a knife to prepare the sandwiches in the field. You might consider taking a wet washcloth along if you hike around the dog towns. I usually carry a sandwich and when I stop to eat, I like to make sure my hands are clean. It is also a good idea to have the sunscreen and bug spray with you if you hike around the dog town.

I probably shouldn't even mention the following items because they are so obvious, but make sure you have at least one good spare tire along and that your jack is in operating condition. A tire wrench should be check on too.

Good luck and make sure you take plenty of photos with your camera.

I always throw in a blank sight in target or two. and some kind if a target holder. (a good size cardboard box works). Seems like gremlins always get into at least one of my gun cases on the way to the killing fields and mess with the scope knobs.

Get yourself one of the smaller styrofoam coolers to keep your ammo from the heat...

You don't need any KaBooms from excessive temperature rises...

I always were a light colored long sleeve shirt as well...That sun can burn pretty easily before you know it out there

I throw in some basic tools like a screw driver, allen sets, pliers or a leatherman. Gary

If your shooting bolt rifles...............make sure you have the "bolts" for all guns going with you. Bolt lub, might prevent gauling of you bolt when you have to defend youself from those attacking P. dogs.

Don't forget any prescriptions you might need, it's a LONGGGGGG ways to the nearest drugstore. Tweezers are handy for those little cactus spines that sometimes find their way into your person, too.

This one may sound dumb but I take nail trimmers as I always seem to break a finger nail in the heat of battle (no jokes please). Gary

On my list I would leave off the spotting scope. In many years of shooting pds I have never used one yet. I would add folding chairs. But my list is short cause we are shootin pretty close to the house. Bring plenty to drink.
