PD Hunt and sold a 204

Post by Bmash »

Went on my first prairie dog hunt and it was fun! I shot about 600 rounds in three days - 6 hours a day.
My 6x47 Lapua on a Barnard action with Lilja barrel with 70gr NBT at 3450 was very accurate and had dramatic impacts! I also shot a 223 and a 204 in ARs.
The guy I went with uses a 243 and two 223s. After he saw the 204 impacts a few times he came home and is buying one! It was impressive compared to the 223 he was shooting.
Lots of pups so the small targets were a great challenge resulting in some great practice. Most shoots within 350 yards but we did get to stretch it out when we wanted.
I had no idea they would just stand there and let you shoot several times as long as you don't hit the ground near them.

Welcome to the addiction!

I'll wager that will not be your one and only PD shoot. :D

Did you use a guide or outfitter service or on your own?

I have wanted to do this for years and even built rifles and ammo but never took the initiative to find a place or guide. Then a friend invited me and yes i will definitely go again. I have bird dogs and plan to go to Montana later this year bird hunting. I plan to take a rifle and fly rod and stay a while. The wife is good as long as I take the dogs... :D

HA! That's how it works around here too. :D

During rat season, my pups get a lot of time in the field for that exact reason. Never heard either of them complain about it either.
