Problem fox!

Post by foxwhistler »

Had a phone call the other day from a farmer that keeps exotic chickens! He'd lost a couple recently, and then Saturday morning was in the garage when a fox walked past carrying a hen! I think that was what pushed him over the edge and had him calling me!
It wasn't an ideal night with a fair bit of moon. Anyway I got there and saw there were only a couple of fields possibly to safely shoot! I sae up the foxpro and then walked down the field to spread a bit of dog food about to hopefully hold the fox!
I started the caller with a ray squeal, and then a rabbit, and soon saw something a couple of fields away heading in! Unfortunately when it got to the field to shoot, it turned out to be a badger!
A bit later I spotted another badger, and then finally when I switched to a vixen mating call a fox came in, but I think it saw me and headed straight back out the field! I then tried fox cub distress, and as I turned round a fox was 30yds behind me! It quickly turned round and went over the hedge but I kept the caller going and the fox came back and sat on top of the hedge! Unfortunately it wasn't a safe shot!!! After a while it headed off, but I caught a glimpse of it going between the buildings with the thermal and seemed to be doing a large circle round the farm! It must have been really keen to know what the cub call was because it eventually came through the hedge in front of me where I managed to shoot it at 90yds! That's the 73rd fox this year. My best year ever! And definitely one happy farmer!Image

NICE!

Great post there, FW! Excellent story with great graphics and photos.

That's a wicked 204 you've got there, looks every bit up to the task. Nice robust and healthy fox too. He/she must have a good diet of those exotic chickens, so I'm guessing the farmer will want to have you back again.

Thanks for posting, keep us in the loop of further adventures. :D

Went out again last night even though it wasn't great conditions with the moon! Anyway I got to the farm and was invited in for a cuppa! The farmer on this farm really likes to use the lamp, and to be honest is one of the few places I now use it! After finishing our tea I went outside and there was a fox 15ft from the front door drinking the cats milk!😂 Needles to say, it disappeared pretty quickly! Anyway we had a walk round the farmyard and straight way I spotted a fox at the top of the bank at the back of the farm! I got set up on the sticks and the lamp was put on! The fox was behind some branches, but a quick squeek and it moved down just enough for the shot! Really nice looking dog fox! And that was all we saw!
