Another new gun!

Post by Tom Kat »

What kind of sickness is this??? How many rifles do I need LoL

I have a Native American friend who, I suspect, needed some extra Xmas money. He sold me this Savage 22.-250 last night at a good price. The scope is an older low grade Nikkon 3x9.

I asked him if he had been doing any coyote hunting and his answer surprised me. He said "we believe it's bad luck to kill coyotes". I know some of his people that do hunt them on the res. It's also odd that he would camouflage this gun and scope. But a deal is a deal...

The good news is, I have a ton of reloading data on Savage .22-250s, this is my 3rd one. I will probably start out with the classic load- 38 grns of H380 and a 52 grn Sierra hp.

Merry Xmas to me-

It was 65 degrees on Xmas eve so I had to try it out. I loaded a 53 gr sierra match King with 36 gr varget and popped some caps.

The scope was really bad. I will fix that. It was nice to test my Christmas present out, a new front rest.

Who else went shooting today?

So I have decided to give that junky scope to my son. What scopes do the readers here use on a .22-250? I was thinking a 4x12 would be a good choice. I have been going with all Leupolds of late but someone told me a Vortex was a good scope for the money. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I have Vortex on all my varmint rifles, 17 calibers , 20 calibers and 6mm calibers. This is a personal choice. Budget wise I stay
in my range and shop for sales. There clear, track true, and come with a great warranty.
Main thing, buy what you like, not what someone else likes.

Over 30 Leupold optics in the safe here, but friends who have Vortex optics are all satisfied. When the Nosler pro shop sold optics, their two primary brands were Leupold and Vortex. That should tell you something.

I have 4 various model Vortex scopes and have no complaints. Two are the 6.5-20 power and this year I had to add a sun shield to them-can't believe I waited till this long to add it. R!

The majority of my scopes are leupold and Vortex. I do have a couple Hawke. All of them to the job, just fine. Just purchase anyone of them, that is within your budget and be happy. Also anyone of them has a fine service department, if you need it. :)

Don't overlook Athlon scopes. I've got several and have no compliants about them. I've got a Talos 6-24 x50 on several rifles, and they all perform fine. I've got crappy eyesight, so I need the magnification. LOL

I finally got that horrible scope and mount off. The front mount was loose and moved easily with my finger. I think a 1 piece rail mount is in my future.
