New toy for next years deer season
Here's my new toy for next years' deer season!
It's a model 657 Smith & Wesson Performance Center 41 Remington Mag. I've only got to shoot it once so far and accuracy was impressive (considering I'm new to the revolver world). I can't wait to work up a load!

Need brass? I have 50 once fired PMC brass - I watched them fire it at the range...put the empties in the box...and toss them in the bin. Cost is shipping.

As a Smith fan, I'll say "very sweet"! Practice from field positions, as hand-held using a scope is fruitless. If you have access to any Elmer Keith material, such as "Sixguns by Keith", read it and you'll be a better handgunner because of it.
Sitting with the revolver held between the knees in both hands, your back up against a rock or tree is about the best I've found.
Good luck Wolf, keep us posted of your success.

Rick - Thanks for the info. I've only got to shoot it once and the weather turned on me that day so I didn't get to spend much time with it. I'll try and get my hands on some of Elmer Keith's material. I'm looking forward to learning all that I can.
I'll keep you posted on both accuracy and then hopefully I'll be privileged enough to take a deer next season with it.

I took it out Wednesday and was shooting steel plates free-hand. The gun is an absolute blast to shoot. It's by far the most fun thing I have to shoot....but then again I haven't gotten my 204 yet! Soon.....very soon...

I have the same pistol in both 41 mag and 44 mag. The early ones came with a nice hard case, then they started shipping them in a soft case. Have you tried the wood grips yet? I like them better.
Had the 657 sold it, what a mistake. I found another in the hard case NEW in AZ at a dealer. While I was on the phone with him he said "Hey I have the same pistol in 44mag" I told him "Make me a deal on both". He did and I'm a very happy camper

BrianW - mine came with the nice Performance Center hardcase. My girlfriend actually bought me the pistol for Christmas this year so I'd say I've got two keepers! Mine was also NIB and it came with the 4x Weaver scope and rings.
I don't have a set of wood grips for it yet. What do you have for wood grips on yours? Are they factory Smith & Wessons?
I'm thinking about getting some grips from Herrett's.

Keep me posted on how things go, I'm hoping to start reloading the 41 this fall sometime. I just ordered my 204 yesterday so I'm planning spending a good portion of my time finding a load for it. Once I accomplish that, I'll move on to the 41 mag.
