Finally got .204RF

The gun shop called & told me my Remington 592 5MM has arrived from a very nice fella over in Delaware. I raced out to claim my prize. I got to see pics of this rifle but as good as they were I was still pleasantly surprised at the lack of wear & character marks on her. Pristine she is. I'm very happy. I tried to get pics of the marks but they wouldn't photograph very well. Altho you can see them right behind the trigger guard & on either side of the trigger guard. I'll have to get Diane to take the pics. :biggrincamo:

Thank You Mr. Trost!!!!!

Hey, congratulations, Glen! I know you've been looking for that girl for a long time. I bet you feel great now that the search is finally over and you can actually fondle the new toy. :D

Thanks RIO. It has been a while. I can't wait to shoot this piece of RF history!! I can't believe how light this rig is. I've got it coming in at 5lbs with the Leupold 3-9 VXII on top. AND she's a looker.

Final assembly.

As of 2 months ago the only interest in a new firearm for the 5MM was by Taurus in a revolver. CZ wasn't tickled about the idea of building one on the 527 either. Bummer there. But now that the SHOT Show is happening maybe somebody has something in the works & we will know about it shortly.

I've read that one. The two guys that did the ammo testing,,Tim M & Andy M,, are internet friends of mine. I've been lucky enough to have known them for almost 10 years now. It was Andy's article on Swift scopes that prompted me to try a Swift Premier 4-12x40 on my 221FB. They are a couple of great guys & are very very knowledgeable. Even tho it's an internet Friendship I'm lucky to know them.

Thanks Clint. I'll be on the ammo trail this weekend & hopefully we can get up around 32* here in the next couple weeks to give it a decent effort.

Hi Rudy. Eagle Valley Arms is making it. A SS fluted barrel with brown laminate T-hole stock on the prototype. You can see it in the RF Photo Forum at the link below.

I am anxious to see if the CZ 455 will be "adapted" to the 5mm. It seems like a natural, the barrels already interchange with just some minor wrenching involved, and it shouldn't be a big deal to make a magazine fit, since the magwell is "adaptable" as well. The only hangup I can see is that the 452 has an extra bolt lug, and the 455 does NOT. :wall: Otherwise, it shouldn't be a big deal, depending on the powders used for the cartridge. The new powders in Centurion 5mm are a lot better than the heeby-jeeby stuff Remington used in the '70s.

Buying a barrel for my new CZ  wouldn't hurt nearly as much as buying a whole new rifle, and NO, I want nothing to do with T/C.

Eagle Arms is trying hard to bring this one in around the 10-22M dollar wise. I hope they can find a way to do it & make it affordable. I wouold love to have one of those new ones next to the old girl I just picked up.

:chin: For Diane of course.

Now that you are in business, you need to send off for Steve Schroeder's CF bolt conversion. It's a complete new CF bolt head that also comes with a new and better SS extractor that you can swap out with the RF bolt head in less than 5 minutes. And the RF bolt head says intact with the Schroeder conversion so you can change back if you want to later on. He also sells dies and brass machined from 22 Hornet brass.

I tired some of the Centurian ammo in both of my 591's and neither of them like the ammo in terms of accuracy. With the CF conversions, I'm still shooting the old Hornady 33 grain 20 caliber bullet and using less than 5 grains of powder to exceed the RF velocities. And accuracy is excellent. The newer 32 grain 20 caliber Hornady bullet shoots extremely well in them also.

I have a friend who has had numerous misfires with strong firing pin hits with several lots of the Centurian ammo in his Model 592. To me, it seems like the quality maybe isn't top notch with the stuff... Misfires, and generally less than good accuracy seem to pop up now and then in discussions on internet chats also..

I'm tossing that idea around too Hal. Would definitely make a neat little CF rig.
