Welcome to the forum spacewelder. This topic has been discussed at length on this forum, and very much so recently, so I don't want to take the time today to go over it again. What I will do is try to save you some time in weeding through a search to get started. You can click the "search"' link in the upper right if you're signed in, and search the term "twist" to get quite a few results.

Heads up on that Glenn, i was one of the newbies that asked the question back then. Settled on 11 twist after advice and haven't regretted it. Boy, have i been taught some stuff since then. Great forum and good people. Thanks, Ken. :D

spacewelder, I had a 1 in 10 twist Pac-Nor Super Match barrel, with a match chamber, dropped into my Remington 700 VLS. I can tell you that it loves the 50 gr Berger over 25.0 gr H4895. I'm looking forward to shooting it a lot more this summer once I get a Jewell BR trigger installed.

CV32: Just out of curiosity, what velocities are you getting shooting the 50 grainers in your ten twist .204? I ask, as I use the 50gr .224" bullet at 3,700 fps in my 12 twist 223 Ackley for grass rats besides my three 204's and Swift. The BC is better with the heavy .204 bullet, but what's the velocity?

I haven't chronied that 50 gr Berger load yet. Definitely on the "to do" list. The first three shots out of that barrel with that load were all touching.

I did chrony a 40 gr Berger load (26.8 gr H4895) in the new barrel. Came in at 3,857 fps.

The most accurate charge I found using the 50 grain Berger with Ramshot TAC in my 1:10 yielded 3300fps. I probably could have hit 3450 and had everything hold together. This is in a 23" AR-15 platform, which robs ~150fps using gases to run the semi-auto action. I could see a bolt action in .204 using something like BL-C(2) or Alliant Reloader-10x pushing velocities to 3600+. Maybe faster with a 26"+ barrel?
