Tell us about yourself...
Re: Tell us about yourself...
Howdy fellow shooters,
I used to be (For a short while) a member here several years ago and then found it impossible to login in, so I moved over to a small caliber forum.
Back now, trying again with a new handle and email address.
I live in the UK and shoot fox and occasional deer.
Just the wrong side of 81 now and sometimes my health dictates whether I get out hunting or not.
Currently shooting 221, 222 and 223.
Not had a 20 cal for years but now wanting another, just can’t decide which chambering.
Thanks for letting me back in.
That’s me done for now.
Ken.

Re: Tell us about yourself...
Welcome back there, Brogadini!
Many here are also into what's known as "geezerhood", and as such, have hopefully gained some knowledge along the way. You're also not the only member here from the UK, so maybe one of them will pipe up now that you've 'arrived'. And we're all slaves to our health, more so when there's snow on top.
As for a .20 cal for what you do, the 204 would do it all of course, but seeing your other calibers, and assuming you're a handloader, I'd consider the 20VT, 20-222 or the 20 Practical for good brass availability. Food for thought.
Be sure to let us know how it all shakes out.

Re: Tell us about yourself...
All I can add is; if you like your 221 Fireballs, you'll love a 20VT. I remember Rick promoting this caliber on here close to 20 years ago. I remember saying to myself; how can this be better than a 204 Ruger. We'll, he was right, very similar performance with 1/3 less of a powder charge. I can shoot more rounds, the barrel doesn't heat up and it's easier to clean.
Good luck to ya'!

Is this Ken, formally "Kenbro"?
If so, good to have an old friend back! Why the name change?

Maybe we are Skipper, but we are still kicking and having fun and that is what matters. Age is mostly in the mind, so they say, even if the body gives us a few different thoughts.

New member or maybe old one I don't recall signing up but my user name was taken "Bob the nailer" so now it's "Submoa". I seem to recall some member names from old forums that have shut down (varmint hunter association, small caliber club, mauser central) good forums are hard to find however this one is quite good. I live in Michigan and keep busy with farming, electrical work and own a gunsmithing shop, reloading for precision target shooting has been an obsession for many years with the deep rabbit hole of longish range subsonic target shooting as of lately. Only built one 20 caliber for bench shooting with zero recoil and the fun factor. Numerious rifle and pistol builds of various chamberings along with wildcats, ever heard of front ignition? I converted a 22-284, 6mm-284 and 30-06 cases to front ignition with great success not without a lot of research on the topic and theory.
Well I could ramble on and on so for now I need to sonic clean some brass.

It matters not, if and when you signed in. Now you are in and maybe I should say, Back. Welcome aboard. Site is a good one, but kind of slow lately with conversation, etc. But it is still active, while some others have faded away. Photo's are always welcome also of hunts, areas you travel in and of course critters taken.

Welcome back there, submoa.
I recall your screen name "Bob the Nailer" from way back. It has connotations of Bob Lee Swagger. I'm a fan of Stephen Hunter too, have every one of his books. Great reading from a guy who knows his way around a rifle.
Good to have you back. Looking forward to seeing some of your work, as we're 'visually oriented' here.

Re: Tell us about yourself...
Welcome submoa!
As a relatively newcomer myself as compared to some others on this site, and a proud member in good standing of the Geezerhood, Old Timer and White on Top Society, I've found a wealth of information and generally great congeniality from fellow members on this forum. If it's wisdom you seek and advice on the smallish 20 calibers, you will find it here in spades and I might add, without a lot of the unfounded BS embellishment found on other sites. You might even find lighthearted humor and occasional political satire but without it being heavy handed or over the top.
As has been noted pictures are always a welcome addition being it "gunporn" or critters suffering from an aerial ballet brought about by small caliber projectiles travelling at or near 4,000fps.

With that in mind, ah yes, the 'aerial ballet', one of our favorites here alrighty.....along with quality gun porn of course.

My 11 twist M700 known as SPOD, or the Silver Princess of Death, a premium launch vehicle for me:

One thing we've established is that the 204 Ruger is one fine "Launch Enabler"!

Re: Tell us about yourself...
I just bought a new Savage 110, 204 Ruger. I found it to have an extremely long throat and my first reloads, set as close to the lands as I could get, were not too impressive.
I was doing some research online about this and came across this site. I have some 32 V-max's loaded up to a longer jump and will try them this week, thanks to this site.
