Lest we forget the brave men and women who fought and died on this date during the unprovoked Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor 84 years ago, and in the many ensuing battles fought during WWII. As expressed by FDR's famous speech to Congress the next day..."a date which will live in infamy", it marked America's entry into WWII.
Here is a little known fact;
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Re: Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
During my active duty Navy days, from time-to-time, we would pull into Pearl Harbor. In my early days more often than not we would moor on the backside of Ford Island just behind the USS Utah memorial. When moored on Ford island, we would often have to walk over to the boat landing to catch a ride over to the main side. We were never suppose to at the time but we would often take the short cut across the runway vice walking around. It always amazed me trying to visualize what it must have been like on the faithful morning and with that still seeing bullet holes and shrapnel markings on the buildings there.
